Finding the Pizza King in North Webster was a pleasant surprise for me. Realizing it offered lakefront dining on a deck set literally over the waters of Webster Lake pretty much made my weekend. If it was any closer to my home, I would be there way too much. Following is my original article as it appeared on Ink Free News this past July.
As someone who blogs a lot about beach bars, frequenting establishments that offer waterfront dining is a priority. It’s a pleasant and welcome surprise, then, when I stumble upon a lakefront restaurant that not only offers a waterfront experience (in this case, you’re actually out over the water) but also includes one of my favorite phrases in the English language — Pizza King.
The North Webster Pizza King, located at 405 S. Dixie Drive, serves not only my favorite pizza but also includes a full menu of items from the Lakeview Restaurant, the previous occupants of the building.
Available from 6:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. the Lakeview menu includes standard breakfast fare at reasonable prices (only one dish is over $6) and typical fried food such as breaded vegetables, homemade soups and chili and sandwiches for lunch and dinner. For late risers, breakfast is served until 1 p.m. with the lunch/dinner menu available from 11 a.m. to close.
And then there’s the pizza. Available for lunch and dinner, the Pizza King menu is the same as its other locations and features subs, wrap-ups and of course, the pizza. You can dine inside if you wish but if you prefer to be as close to the water as possible, the restaurant offers an outside deck which sits over the waters of Lake Webster, offering lake lovers the opportunity to be as close to the water as possible without actually being on a boat.
If you’re lucky enough to find yourself on a boat, you don’t need to worry about hopping in your car to get some pizza. The North Webster Pizza King offers space to dock your boat and you can either stay for dinner or take your order to go.
The Pizza King’s location at North Webster’s public park also affords families the chance for a cheap fun-filled day. The Dixie sternwheel tour boat docks 20 feet away and for $7 a person, you can enjoy a ride around the lake and cap the experience with a meal at Pizza King.
A public beach and park is just on the other side of the Dixie from the Pizza King so a fun day with the family at the beach could be punctuated with visits to Pizza King to keep everybody’s hunger pains under control.
Waterfront dining doesn’t have to be expensive and for those of you looking for a great meal with a view to match or want to include a day at the beach or a boat ride around the lake, the North Webster Pizza King offers you all of that and more at a price that won’t break the bank.
