M the Market Brings Their PB&J Game

I don’t really have any good reasons to explain why it took me so long to finally visit M the Market in Syracuse, Indiana. My only defense is that there are so many great places to eat in the Warsaw/Winona Lake area that I just never made it a priority.

That changed, though, once I met Jeff Moerchen at an industry rum release party (I always mention that when given the opportunity). Jeff and his sister Sara Kropf started M the Market and are the owners. Upon coming to the quick conclusion that he was a swell guy, I told him I would get up there later that week for a visit.

Interior of M the Market in Syracuse, Indiana. You place your orders at the counter as they entice you with their cheese display case. It’s hard to resist!

How do I put this without overselling it? Just go and when you do, order the peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Yeah, I know it’s on the kid’s menu but it’s just so good. I don’t know what kind of peanut butter and jelly they slop between the slices of focaccia but I don’t care. I just want to eat it for every meal.

Spreading the jelly on a heaping bed of peanut butter.

Originally ordered for my five year old daughter, I played the “you wouldn’t exist without me” card, swiped the sandwich from her plate and happily enjoyed my role as a parent while I scarfed down the peanut butter and jelly masterpiece. In the most unintentional hyperbolic manner possible, it is the best peanut butter and jelly sandwich I’ve ever had and is the only reason you need to check out M the Market. And don’t worry about my daughter – she eats like a bird so I left her most of the potato chips that came with the sandwich.

There’s a lot more to M the Market than their PB&J sandwiches such as their cured meat, wine, amazing cheese selection and unique local goods for sale. They’re closed for the month of January, however, and will be undergoing some changes for the upcoming season. I’ll feature those in a future article so in the meantime, prep your taste buds for a PB&J party which appropriately wouldn’t be complete without this jam (pun intended) jamming in the background because … well … it’s my jam (pun intended again).

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the peanut butter and jelly sandwich in all its glory. You’re welcome.
