As if the language on the sign outside Great Wall’s location on Center St. in Warsaw wasn’t enough of an indicator, Oak & Alley will soon be moving into the recently closed restaurant. Previously thought to be vacating its current location in the alley behind Three Crowns Coffee on Buffalo St. in downtown Warsaw, Oak & Alley will instead be opening a second restaurant in the former Great Wall restaurant. Open for almost three decades, the restaurant’s last day was this past Sunday.
The move will be a big one for Dave Gustafson, the owner of Oak & Alley, and his staff. With the new restaurant more than tripling the current location’s capacity, the new location will make Gustafson the owner of the largest independently-owned restaurant in the Warsaw/Winona Lake area based merely on seating capacity (if my calculations are correct).
The Center St. location will include family seating inside, currently only available outside and during the warmer months at the downtown restaurant. The burger-centric menu will continue with Chef Chris Prater given the opportunity to add more variations of the immensely popular burgers to the menu.
