Fancy an island getaway but don’t feel like hopping on a plane? Luckily for you, Kosciusko County has a place to stay that’s surrounded by water. With your own cabin, private beach and 360 degree view of water, you may never want to leave. Book it early, though, as this family-friendly getaway sells out quickly.
Located just east of Epworth Forest towards the northeast end of the lake, Treehouse Island gets its name from the tree growing through the middle of it. That aforementioned cabin? Yep, the tree grows through it as well.
A manmade island created when this area was just a swamp, the house on Treehouse Island went through a complete renovation about a decade ago. Consisting of three bedrooms, two baths and plenty of room for memories, the house can sleep seven adults comfortably or up to 10 persons for families with kids.
As would be expected from an island destination, you will need a boat to access it. Don’t worry – you won’t have to bring your own. A pontoon is available for use to rent by the week or by the weekend. If you don’t feel like leaving the island once you check in, you can still just hop a ride on the pontoon to get you from the mainland to your own private island.
Once you arrive on the island, you’ll have at your disposal a fully equipped kitchen, large screen TVs with cable, a gas grill, private beach with fire pit, a paddleboat and kayaks among other amenities.
Weekly rental rates for the summer season start at $2625 per week plus applicable taxes and fees. Reserve your getaway early, though. Treehouse Island typically books out a year in advance as its many repeat customers can’t resist the charm of this island escape in the middle of the land of the lakes.
