Social Is Becoming The Villa Sweets + Eats Under New Ownership

There’s a change coming to the Village at Winona, but don’t worry. The ice cream isn’t going anywhere.

After three years of serving hand-dipped ice cream, sandwiches and plenty of treats from its spot in the Village at Winona, Social Ice Cream and Sandwich Shop has been sold to the team behind The River Coffeehouse. The shop will soon take on a new name, The Villa Sweets + Eats, with Amanda and the team at The River taking over ownership.

For Shawn and Carrie, the sale marks the end of a chapter that started with something they didn’t necessarily see coming.

“Creating Social has become a dream that we didn’t know we had,” they shared in announcing the sale.

The couple has been part of the Kosciusko County hospitality scene since 2018 and opened Social three years ago. Along the way, the shop became a familiar stop in the Village for everything from an afternoon scoop to lunch, while their son Roux quite literally grew up around the business.

Shawnanigans’ final day operating Social was September 26, with the shop scheduled to reopen October 1 under its new ownership.

While a new name and some changes are coming, the outgoing owners emphasized that the things they valued most about Social will remain important under The River’s ownership: family, community and quality service. And, most importantly for anyone worried about losing another local ice cream stop, the hand-dipped ice cream is sticking around. Existing Social gift cards and coupons will be honored through Thanksgiving week, along with Swig Society $1 Tuesdays.

More details about The Villa Sweets + Eats, including what customers can expect from the new concept, are expected as the transition continues.

For now, consider it less of a goodbye and more of a changing of the scoops.

Follow Social (for now) on Facebook.
