On my first visit to Buzz on Buffalo, the new restaurant located in downtown Warsaw, I glanced around and noticed the stools at the countertop. At each stool’s location, there is a name painted on the countertop. Who those names belong to doesn’t matter. What struck me, however, was the meaning behind those names. Buzz on Buffalo, along with B-Mac’s before it and Dig’s Diner for what seems like forever before that, represents a bygone era.
The culinary scene in Warsaw and around the world is taking on the challenge of blazing new paths, finding new ways to prepare meals and adding ingredients to cocktails because that’s what everyone else is doing. Meanwhile, it is places like Buzz on Buffalo that get lost in the stampede to whatever the next “new and shiny” goal is that some writer or influencer deems it to be.
That is why Buzz on Buffalo, and your support of it, matters. Try separating yourself from the pack when the pack has left you behind and everyone else is following it. You might find your niche but it will be in the dust of the so-called “trail blazers” finding new and exciting ways to present dishes and drinks.
The individuals whose names are seemingly forever etched into the countertop at Buzz on Buffalo represent more than just a person. They represent a downtown full of vitality, crowded street corners, bustling crowds, family-friendly activities, hearty conversations and everything else that seems to be missing in our brave new world.
I write about beach bars in the Caribbean a lot on my Beach Bar Bums blog and one role I always assign to them is that they are the heart of the community, especially on the tiny islands that call them home. Downtown diners like Buzz on Buffalo play that same role. The stronger that heart beats, the better it is for our downtown, and community, body as a whole.
