Previously named one of the 10 best small towns in the Midwest, Winona Lake recently added to its accolades by being named “one of the 12 best small towns in the US for families” by Travel & Leisure. In naming Winona Lake one of the best small towns for families, the article describes the community as one that “offers plenty of outdoor activities including boating, biking, and hiking.” It also goes on to describe the Village as “a charming collection of Victorian houses that have been turned into shops, restaurants, and lodging,” including the Village’s very own Foodie’s Paradise!
Winona Lake has long been one of my favorite places to visit. Beyond the shops and restaurants in the Village, the small community offers miles of biking and hiking trails, a premier bicycling festival, the resources of Grace College and plenty of history, including being a top tourism destination (summer visitors used to number 250,000 at the turn of the 20th century). The tourism numbers have a ways to go before reaching their previous highs. However, there is no doubt visitors will continue to discover and flock to this Midwestern getaway to enjoy all of the amenities it has to offer.
What are you waiting for? Consider a getaway to the most charming small town in the Midwest … and bring your family. Travel & Leisure certainly thinks you should. Disclaimer on the image they used in their article – there are no hills or mountains in Winona Lake, even if you squint really hard into the horizon. Just wanted to make sure that was clear to anyone expecting hills to explore. 🙂
