Find Your Road (Hot) Dog Fix at Road Dogz in Silver Lake

Befittingly located at the intersection of two state highways (15 and 14), the aptly named “Road Dogz” in Silver Lake is a restaurant that specializes in “road dogs,” otherwise known as hot dogs. Opened by the previous proprietors of the Silver Inn, Road Dogz offers a variety of tasty hot dogs at its corner location. Featuring at least seven takes on one of America’s favorite foods, Road Dogz also offers sides and drinks to make your meal complete.

The Road Dogz include a Regular Road Dog, a Spanish Road Dog that you can add cheese to and a Kraut Dog which comes with sauerkraut and mustard as toppings. Other hot dogs are the Slaw Dog which comes topped with cole slaw, the Rueben Dog (sauerkraut, Thousand Island dressing and swiss cheese) and the Chicago Dog, a Midwestern favorite, which comes wrapped in a poppyseed bun and blanketed with relish, tomato, onion, mustard, pickle spear and sports peppers.

After surviving a trip from Road Dogz to our home, the Chicago Dog still held together surprisingly well, making this a great carryout option!

Sides include different flavors of chips, cole slaw, macaroni salad and nachos. Different sodas and water are available to wash everything down.

When we visited, we ordered a couple each of the Spanish with Cheese Road Dog and the Chicago Dog along with a serving of cole slaw. Service from Jodi and Lance was quick and with a smile, the road dogs meticulously prepared and packaged for our to go order. After making the 10 minute trek back to our home in Warsaw, we quickly dove into both and were not disappointed. I’ve been a fan of hot dogs for as long as I could eat them so to say I’ve had a few of them would be an understatement. The hot dogs from Road Dogz were delicious, with the choice of toppings creating the perfect balance of flavor.

For those of you wanting to enjoy the hot dogs hot off the presses, outdoor seating is available at a few picnic table on the north side of the building. Also to note – bring cash as it’s the only form of payment currently accepted.

It’s a slice of Americana at the crossroads of America so hit the road to Road Dogsz and check out what Jodi and Lance have to offer!
