I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to fully capture in words the impact the 2024-2025 Warsaw Lady Tigers basketball team had on our community. What I can do, however, is share the story of the impact they had on our family. And in doing so, perhaps our experience reflects what so many others felt this season. Because that’s what made this team so special—somehow, in ways big and small, they became “OUR” team.
Our journey with them started a little late in the season. The first game we attended in person was during their own Lady Tiger Tournament, where they made quick work of Chesterton and New Haven. I remember looking up at the banners hanging in the gym and thinking, They’re going to add to that collection—I’d be shocked if they didn’t.
From that moment on, our family was all in. We showed up to every home game, watched them online when we couldn’t be there, and started making travel plans as the playoffs began. We saw them dominate their sectional on their own home court, then made the trip to Laporte to watch them take down a tough South Bend Washington team.

Then came semi-state at the historic Case Arena in Frankfort, where they handled McCutcheon in the first game. And the semi-state championship? That was something else entirely. Facing the top-ranked team in the state (ninth in the country) Hamilton Southeastern, they played the kind of game people will talk about for years. Until I witness something better, I’ll tell anyone who asks that it was the best basketball game I’ve ever seen in person. And after that thrilling win, they were off to the state championship at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
At every stop along the way, we saw the same thing happening. Families like ours, fans like us, filling gyms across northern Indiana, showing up because we knew this team was special. Somewhere along the journey, they became more than just a team we cheered for. They became a team we cared about.
And we weren’t alone. Across the community, people claimed this team as theirs. We learned their names, celebrated their milestones, and felt pride in their victories as if they were our own. Outside of Raegan, none of them would know me if they passed me on the street, but that didn’t stop me from getting choked up as I waved to their convoy as it headed down to Indianapolis. They had a way of bringing people together—not just because they were great athletes, but because they were great people.

For our family, this season gave us something beyond basketball. It gave us moments together. It gave us an excuse to put down our devices, leave the house, and go somewhere new. It gave us road trips, historic gyms, post-game conversations, and the kind of inspiration that lingers long after the final buzzer. None of that happens without this team and this season.
Maybe that’s what makes this story worth telling—because as this team built their own memories, they gave the rest of us the chance to do the same. And the best part about making memories? There are always more to be made. Their story isn’t over. And just like we did this season, we can’t wait to keep cheering them on.
